Police investigating after shooter fires out of moving car, hits woman in leg

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington Police are investigating after they say someone shot a woman in the leg out of a moving car early Saturday.

They say around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, they got a call about a woman who was shot while walking from a friend's house at 2812 Ward Street. Police say the woman, Gwendolyn Renee Bass, 29, told them she was walking from the home on Ward St. towards Dare St. when she was shot.

Police say Bass told officers she noticed a white vehicle driving close by soon before it passed her walking. That's when she told police she heard a "pop," before realizing she had been shot in the leg.

As officers questioned Bass about the crime, they say she showed signs of being on narcotics. They say she admitted she had been using heroin before the shooting happened. Police say Bass was taken to the hospital, but were not sure about her condition.

Officers say Bass was unable to provide a detailed description of the car or the shooter inside.

So, what we have here is one criminal (woman who uses illegal drugs) getting shot by another criminal (some guy in a car). Why is this news? This is pure Darwinism. Let the criminal species cause their own demise, no need to step in and stop it.

What crime? Nothing to see here folks. Move along.
