WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Police are investigating an armed robbery after they say a woman was followed home from the airport and robbed at knife-point outside of her home.

They say just before 5 a.m. Saturday police say a woman told officers she was driving home from the airport when she noticed a dark-colored SUV with no headlights on behind her. She told police she continued driving, eventually pulling up at her house on Windchime Drive.

Police say when the woman pulled into her garage and got out of the car, she saw a man in a hoodie with something covering part of his face standing outside with a knife in his hand. Officers say the woman initially refused to give the robber her purse, but handed it over when the man threatened to stab her.

Once the woman gave the man her purse, police say he took off driving in the SUV towards Independence Ave. WPD is investigating the crime.

She sounds like a good candidate for the next Darwin Award.

If the woman knew she was being followed by a suspicious vehicle, why in the world would she drive all the way from the airport to her home across town??? Why not drive to the nearest police station or another public place with other people around??? Driving to her home with a criminal in tow was just plain stupid!

So she noticed a suspicious vehicle behind her so she led it right to her home? Perfect.
