RALEIGH, NC (THE WALL STREET JOURNAL) — North Carolina led the U.S. in job losses last month, a sign of stress for a state scaling back its support for its jobless residents.

The Tar Heel State shed a seasonally adjusted 11,300 jobs in February from the prior month as it continues to grapple with the decline of its traditional manufacturing, tobacco and textile industries, according to new Labor Department figures released Friday.

Employment increased in 33 states, while it decreased in 17 states and the District of Columbia. Nationwide, payrolls rose 175,000 in February.

THe article proves the “Carolina Comeback” is a falsehood. The SAME falsehood promulgated by the Obama Administration.
In McCrory’s defense it is very soon after his FIRST budget (remember that our state budget runs until June 31 each year).
But for him to advertise this as some sort of comeback is disingenuous at best.
Now they are looking at belt tightening due to continued medicaid over runs and as one paper put it “revenue uncertainty” for next year. Much like the Bush Tax cuts, the McCrory tax cuts were ill timed and too deep.

Bev had to deal with the second worst recession in U.S. history, there is no doubt about that. There are large forces at play here that affect the state’s economic picture.
That said, one has to admit that the fact that the national job creation picture is IMPROVING and North Carolina’s is worsening should be a wake up call to those leading this state.
Dak and Victaulic total 700 job losses JUST for Brunswick county! And now there is a call center in Charlotte closing meaning a loss of almost 300 more jobs.
If this was during Bev’s regime the GOP would be all over the airwaves criticizing her and the DEMs.
But now that they’re in power we get silence? We get a limp wristed “Carolina Comeback” campaign type slogan from McSmirky? Where’s the outrage? Wheres our legislative leaders on this bad news?
I will not call McSmirky a failure yet but the initial news is not positive for him, at all. The MOST disturbing part of this is the apparent lack of concern by the Governor and Legislature. They seem awfully quick to criticize others, but not themselves…..
THAT is disappointing

I don’t think that letting more people fall into poverty should even be on the table. These are real people with real families that need to eat and have a roof over their heads and to have medical care if something goes wrong. People without jobs or any other means of support also commit more crime and no one supports that with the exception of Guesty maybe. No one can lay this at Bev’s feet either because we were actually creating jobs near the end of her term. This is all McRotten’s and his administrations fault.

The BULK of the blame goes to the recession and the Governor at the time Bev Perdue. The buck stops at here desk the same way it stops now at McSmirkey’s desk.
It is too early to tell if his tax policies will work as we are still in the 1st budget year of his current term. Remember his 1st budget started on July 1.
I will say this. He has FAILED at job creation so far. We have lost more jobs as the national economy has rebounded (albeit slightly). I view this as “we should have done better than the national economy as we have instituted Republican pro corporation policies and tax structures”. Again – this is so far. It is still early but the INITIAL results are not good.
Yes coupled with the cutting of unemployment benny’s the combined affect has been bad. At this stage I’m NOT SURE which is worse – keeping the Federal unemployment loans, or letting NC residents fall into poverty due to losing benefits. McSmirkey made his choice and time will tell if it was a mistake. Right now it’s not looking so good……..

This loss of jobs combined with the lack of unemployment compensation is driving a lot of people in NC to poverty and despair.
Our exalted governor thar billed himself a “job creator” is so far not living up to his promises to the people of our state. Note the loss of Victaulic’s 100 jobs to Mexico from a county that cannot afford the loss of 1 job, let alone 100.
I thought he told us that by cutting taxes on the more wealthy would let them create more jobs and grow the economy. At a time when overall jobs did increase across the country, this is a sad commentary for the state of North Carolina.
Once again, a corporate republican has lied to the citizens and is leading us down a path of economic destruction.
Restore the old unemployment benefits we used to have to ease the suffering of these people. It is the easiest economic stimulus we can use to help us through these bad times that the current governor and his staff have put us in.
