Woman charged with sister's murder likely to stay in jail

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A woman charged with her sister's murder will likely stay in jail after making her first court appearance this afternoon.

A judge approved the District Attorney's Office's request for restrictions on bond for Joyce Goldberg. She is charged with second-degree murder after investigators say she shot and killed her sister Glenda Bordeaux in Carolina Beach yesterday morning.

If Goldberg posts the $287,000 bond, she will be put under house arrest and electronic monitoring. Goldberg said during her appearance by video from the New Hanover County Jail that she does not expect to be able to post the bond.

The judge also appointed her an attorney after Goldberg applied as an indigent.

Investigators still will not say what led to the shooting.

I am in disbelief of the things strangers will post that a grieving family could see. My aunt Joyce suffered from extreme paranoia and mental issues since a cancer diagnosis and treatment. Her mind is not right. It is a tragedy and nothing else! If my mother knew she was in danger of losing her life she wouldn't stayed with my aunt anyway because my aunt asked and that's the person my mom was. For those friends that knew her, thank you for prayers.
