Winnabow man wanted for assaulting pregnant woman caught

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office has tracked down a man who was wanted for multiple assault charges after allegedly attacking a pregnant woman.

Detectives charged Maurice Kendell Wright, 29, of River Rd. SE in Winnabow, with habitual misdemeanor assault, assault on a female, battery of unborn child and assault inflicting serious injury. Investigators say the charges stem from an incident Monday near Leland.

According to arrest warrants, Wright head-butted a pregnant woman Monday breaking her nose.

After asking for help finding Wright this morning, the Sheriff's Office said this afternoon he had been found. He is in the Brunswick County Jail under $65,000 bond.

Arrest warrants say Wright was convicted in 2001 for assault on a female in Brunswick County and in 2002 for assault and battery in New Hanover County.
