RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) -- Punters typically don't get as much respect and notoriety as other players on a football team, but when you need to punt it sure helps to have a good one. Hoggard graduate Wil Baumann is the NC State punter. Baumann ranks third in school history in career punts with one more season left in Raleigh. "I'm always looking to improve. I"ve had a pretty good three seasons leading up to my last year. This year I want to be consistent with everything I do. I want my good ball to come out every single time. "
As a junior Wil Baumann ranked 7th in the ACC with 42.2 punting average. Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren says it was a good season for Wil, but not great. "Wil is a guy who is very detailed," Doeren said. He works hard, takes it very serious. I know it's important for him to have a great senior year. The biggest thing for him is consistency. We're gonna nail down his ability to be a great pooch punter, trying to get a bunch of those balls inside the 10 to help our defense."
Bamann is excited about the 2014 football season for the Wolfpack. In fact he'll enter the new campaign with a new spirit. The Wilmington resident recently spent his spring break in Romania with a church group and his girlfriend, helping spread the word and faith. " I just wanted to get a way from Raleigh for a bit. Step out with my faith and minister these people and do something not for myself, but for someone else."
