WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Two weeks into spring means allergy season is in full swing.
If you have been outside, you have seen all the pollen covering just about everything.
The New Hanover County Health Department says this has been a very active pollen season. That tends to be trouble for people with allergies, and especially people with asthma.
"A lot of times the pollen can trigger an asthma attack," deputy Health Director Joshua Swift said. "Just as smoking, people being around secondhand smoke."
Experts recommend cleaning your air filters and checking with your doctor to keep your asthma symptoms at bay.
Swift says the highest pollen counts can be expected from 5 to 9 a.m. and when it is windy outside.
