CAMP LEJEUNE, NC (WWAY) -- A Camp Lejeune Marine standing guard at the base's Main Gate is dead after he was shot by a bullet from another Marine's rifle.

A news release from Camp Lejeune says at about 5:30 p.m., a Marine standing guard at the Main Gate discharged a M4 rifle. The shot hit and killed another Marine guard. Base officials say the shot was fired from inside the shack from an M4 rifle. The victim suffered one gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at 6:10 at the hospital.

The Marine Corps has not yet released the name of the Marine who died as it tries to notify the Marine's family.

The male shooter is in the custody of military law enforcement. Base say this event was an isolated incident and not an act of terrorism nor an active shooter event.
