UPDATE: Police investigating after man is shot three times

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Police are investigating after they say a man was shot three times near Greenfield Lake last night.

Wilmington Police responded to 1132 Carnation Court just before 8 p.m.

When officers got to the scene, they found Gregory Nixon, 25, with three gunshot wounds. Police say he had been shot in his right hand, right knee cap and also just above his knee.

Police say Nixon told them he was walking to his girlfriend's house when someone 'rolled up' and started shooting. Officers say he told them he did not see the shooter, but said he did spot a dark vehicle during the crime.

One witness at the scene said he heard gunshots outside of his home before the victim knocked on his door for help. He was taken to the hospital for injuries but is expected to be okay.

Wilmington Police say officers continue searching for suspects, and add that they are following up with what Nixon says happened.

How'd this guy get out of jail?

Seems to me this guy made the news not too long ago for being involved in a drive-by shooting, fleeing and eluding police, and a sundry of other charges which landed him in jail. Not to mention he is a known gang member. How did he get out of jail to be allowed to prowl the streets again?
