WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man will spend up to 15 years behind bars after a jury found him guilty of two counts of kidnapping and common law robbery.

Clerks at the Baymont Inn on S. college Rd. say William Antwain Patterson came to the front desk asking for a wash cloth August 9. When they refused to give him one, he hid in the laundry room. After a scuffle, Patterson tried to lock them in the office and then punched an elderly clerk in the face before taking off with her cell phone.

Prosecutors had hoped to charge him as a habitual felon but were unsuccessful because of an error in Patterson’s indictment.
