Tree trimming to close part of Market next week

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The NCDOT will shut down a busy stretch of Market St. in Wilmington most of next week.

Crews will trim the trees along Market from 17th St. to 23rd St. Monday through Thursday. Market will be closed daily from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. as they work. Drivers should use Princess Place Dr. instead.

The city says the closure is necessary so that crews can remove ten diseased and damaged oak trees that were further weakened during the February ice storm. The trees will be replaced with ten High Rise Live Oaks.

The project is a joint effort between the city and the DOT.

Doesn't DOT Have a Calendar?

You would think that somebody at NCDOT would know that the Azalea Festival is this week.

Ah, the great timing of government.
