WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The 67th Annual Azalea Festival continued as the queen toured Wilmington today.

Queen Azalea Kirsten Haglund got the royal treatment at Pine Valley Elementary this morning complete with smiles, flowers and hugs from students. Some even showed her their best bow.

Haglund says so far this has been a wonderful experience.

“Every day has been better than the last,” said Haglund, who arrived in town Tuesday. “This festival is truly incredible. I’ve met wonderful, so kind and gracious to welcome me here. Obviously I get to be with the kids at the school here today at pine valley elementary school is going to be an amazing time.”

The queen’s day included a luncheon and a visit to the Betty H. Cameron Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
