WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- On this weekend's Historic Home Tour, you can walk into a home that nearly did not make it to 2014.
The Elliott-Brown House is a Queen Anne style home at 218 S. 2nd St. It was built in 1897 for Mary Taylor Elliott, who was the widow of a merchant.
Master printer Earl Williams Brown owned it from 1934 to 1971, then wanted it demolished, but someone bought the house before that could happen.
Current owners Bill and Patricia Braswell are sure glad they did. Now they're honored to show it off after working hard to get it ready.
"The men and women who volunteered to be docents for the tour came and looked at the house. Their first time seeing the house. But just to be able to see their reaction as they walked through the house, even that made it all worthwhile," Bill said.
The Historic Home Tour is Saturday and Sunday. Click here for ticket information.
