RALEIGH, NC (AP) — The North Carolina Highway Patrol is warning drivers that troopers will be out in force over the next week looking for speeders and other dangerous drivers.

Operation Slow Down begins on Monday with troopers using both marked and unmarked cars to catch violators on interstates and major four-lane highways.

Authorities say that speed is the biggest cause of wrecks and fatalities both in the state and across the nation.

Last year, North Carolina troopers issued almost 20,000 tickets statewide during Operation Slow Down. More than 8,000 of those were for speeding.

The operation continues through next Sunday.

Agencies have different divisions and traffic control is one of them. Traffic cops are just doing their job. Other cops do investigations on drug sang gun violence. All aspects (jobs) in law enforcement are equally important. Some just requires a different approach and or course of action.

That’s what the Gestapo said when on trial for killing Jews at the Nuremberg trials. Cops only serve one use to collect revenue for the state, county or city. They do not prevent crime they just come after the effect of crime. THEY ARE REVENUE GENERATORS.

Go back to driving school Sam. 10 under is not against the law, 10 over is. Unless your on an interstate (or similar), the left lane is for carrying traffic, just like the right lane. There are times I feel like my life is in imminent danger because I need to make a left turn and some speeding jacka$$ with blood in his eye wants me out of his way. I’m all for the understaffed, underpaid law enforcement in our area handing out as many tickets as they can. Maybe one day we will not be tagged as being the worse drivers in the State along with having the highest insurance premiums.

Last time I checked they are law “enforcement” officers not law “preventers” you jack bag liberal sheep!

you are 100% correct, it’s becoming an epidemic on their part, you’d think it would be a 2 way street, what’s good for the goose should be good for the gander

Why don’t they start by slowing down themselves? I’m tired of watching marked and unmarked cops clearly speeding, using their phones while driving, not using turn signals, creeping through stop signs, and every other infraction they are so quick to pull you over for.

Maybe they are cracking down on themselves.

Wish I could believe this. Speeding is out of control all over the state. WPD does nothing to slow people down.

I have seen a lot of people going ten under in Wilmington- how about telling people to speed up? As for speeding-what do you think the left lane is for? There are alot more important things to worry about- how about gun viloence and drug control for starters?

I would much rather be on the road with someone going 10 or 15 mph over the limit than texters, cell users, women putting on makeup, kids fiddling with GPS and other devices that do little more than distract.

Film them breaking the law and sent it to Cop Block then it will be all over the net and they will send it to whoever the agency is. The camera is a tool they can’t lie about.
