BURGAW, NC (StarNewOnline.com) -- A Burgaw man was shot Monday afternoon during a confrontation with his neighbor, Burgaw Police Chief Montrina Sutton said.

Officers responded to a call at 312 Campbell St. about 4:30 p.m. where an unidentified man said he'd been shot after approaching his neighbor about an earlier incident, Sutton said. During that confrontation, the chief added, there was a forced entry and shots were fired.

Police carried on a dialogue with Ernest Edyang, the alleged shooter, eventually convincing him to surrender. When Edyang opened the door, though, his pit bull came out of the house and acted aggressively toward officers and its owner, Sutton said.

Live right in the middle of Burgaw, and came from NY area 20 years ago. The down has taken a downward turn compared to the way it was. Certain type of people, dont want to say the type are the reason for the decline, so if u drove through the town with your wife and said oh what a pretty southern town you have no clue as to how it was. They all act like gangbangers, little punks trying to sell drugs, acting like ghetto trash.

AGREED ! Burgaw is turning

AGREED ! Burgaw is turning into a Ghetto. Been living here over ten years and see the town going to crap because of a certain type of person. Need to clean up the town before it becomes a Creekwood type town over run by trashy people. I have watched these type people walk down my street and just throw there trash in my yard and in neighbors yards as well as the street. They live in trash and think trash is okay. Clean the town up before its too late.

This reminds me of another headline I saw once.

"Man dies while reeling in large fish. Fish is caught and brought aboard."

Burgaw is turning into a

Burgaw is turning into a ghetto. This place is out of control, the cops need to keep a lid on this thug mentality that is spreading around this community. there are drugs and drug deals going on everywhere.

Exactly right !

Agreed...Burgaw is in decline

and has been for the last several years. The number of For Sale signs around that town is striking - many of which have faded due to the elements. I know a number of long time residents who have moved to Hampstead over the last several years. The case that is the subject of this article should serve as a wake up call. In a formerly nice neighborhood, a guy shoots someone and his pit bull has to be put down by the police - and all this right across the street from a nursing home and just down from the hospital.

The town has an excellent, professional police force but the town's leadership needs improvement. It could be that the voters of Burgaw need to make some changes at the ballot box and of the leadership of the town. Granted the nation itself is in trouble and Burgaw could be symptomatic of a national decline but Burgaw was and is a jewel and it needs to be saved. Burgaw is the location of choice for many movies and TV shows because it is beautiful and needs to be rescued from some very obvious declines over the last several years.

Wow.

In what part of Burgaw do you reside? Burgaw is and has been one unique little town despite efforts to turn it into another Wilmington. Leave the town as it is. When my family was searching for a place to reside, we looked at every community within 50 miles of Wilmington, where we worked. Burgaw stood out like a pearl in a swine pit. Downtown is so unique, we were sold on the area after driving through just once. Keep it like it is. Movie studios don't come here because Burgaw looks like Lower Manhattan. Development will eventually turn Burgaw into just another little muddled community, then you will have reason to complain. I was stunned by the overwhelming number of residents who wanted a Walmart in their pristine little town. It was obvious that they had done little or no research into how a Walmart effects a small community. Sad. You traded your little town ease for more redlights, congested traffic, cheap Chinese goods, about 100 minimum wage jobs, and $160,000 to $200,000 leaving your community every day. Do the math.
