New charges for Winston-Salem woman in hit-and-run

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AP) -- Additional charges have been filed against a Winston-Salem woman whose vehicle struck and dragged a man more than two miles.

Police said 24-year-old Viola Demitria Spencer is charged with felony hit and run and misdemeanor death by vehicle. Spencer had been charged by police with destroying, altering, concealing or tampering with evidence.

Winston-Salem police say 54-year-old John Otis Hill was walking when he was struck last Wednesday night. He was found beneath a vehicle about 2½ miles from where he was struck. Hill was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he died.

Spencer is in the Forsyth County Jail under a $100,000 bond. It couldn't be determined if Spencer has an attorney.
