WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Fire Department held its annual job-related physical assessments today, which puts firefighters through a series of physical tests.

They perform on-the-job routine tasks like moving ladders, carrying hoses and dragging a 165-pound dummy.

Training chief Patrick Campbell says the assessment helps the department in more ways than one.

“We just validate that we can do the task, but this job-related physical assessment also ties in with our wellness incentive that we have going on within our department,” he said. “We’re trying to be a healthier, more physically fit and abled department as a whole.”

If firefighters do not pass the assessment, they go through a physical training program then allowed to try again.

You are exactly right, they roll in and out of their vehicles, and the females are just as bad.

Wow, shouldn’t all law enforcement and emergency response members have the same type of fitness requirements? I’ve seen some pretty obese LE that I KNOW could not run 50 feet in their gear after someone.
