WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputies say a suspected thief was caught not long after the crime was committed.

A spokesman says deputies were called Tuesday to a breaking and entering in progress at 4484 Amelia Ct. The witness gave investigators a description of three suspects and the license tag number of the car they used.

Deputies found the car in the parking lot of the Greentree Apartments with the driver, Latrese Ann Williams, still inside the car. Deputies say they then found items hidden in the woods near the apartments that matched the description provided by the witness. When deputies searched Williams’s apartment, they say they found several other items that had been reported stolen.

Williams is charged with two counts each of larceny and felony breaking and entering. She is due back in court to face the charges next month. Court records show Williams, 25, is scheduled for court in July on a charge of possession of stolen goods.

The Department of Corrections website shows Williams has a criminal record that includes convictions for breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Detectives are still investigating, trying to identify the other suspects involved in the Amelia Ct. break-in.
