WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW Chancellor Gary Miller is among the finalists for the president job at an Ohio university.

The Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports Miller is one of six finalists that were scheduled to be interviewed via Skype yesterday and today for the top job at Youngstown State University. The finalists also include former Youngstown State and Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel.

Miller came to UNCW in the summer of 2011. He replaced Rosemary DePaolo, who retired.

UNCW spokeswoman Janine Iamunno confirmed Miller’s candidacy for the Youngstown State job.

“Chancellor Miller has been invited to explore other presidential opportunities in higher education. The chancellor and Mrs. Miller continue to be dedicated to UNCW and this community, and respectfully request that this development not interfere with the celebration of our students’ upcoming commencement ceremonies or the important endeavors of our faculty and staff,” Iamunno said in a statement.

Keep North Carolina ignorant and backward so your children will be only smart enough to bag groceries and flip burgers. The smart ones will leave to pursue technology, medicine and science in other states and WILL NOT come back.

“We don’t need us no dadgum educaaaashun!” Whooooo! NASCAR and WALMART!

    Thank you, idiots…keep voting GOP!

    A step up for sure.
And he would have an Athletic department that MAKES the university money due to its football program that has LOADS of TV monies coming in.
He wouldn’t have to make that tough decision as to what sports programs to cut due to lack of interest/attendance and money.
Maybe they should name Buzz Peterson interim Chancellor and at least get some work out of him during his last year or two on his contract.

I hope Miller gets the job

Loads of TV money for Youngstown football? Why don’t you share with all what the football television package yields financially for the Missouri Valley Conference!

When your chancellor wants to leave for Youngstown State in Ohio things must be really bad. I’m not sure that YSU is even a lateral move, but I’m not sure anyone would consider it stepping up.

The UNCW ship might not be sinking just yet, but it sure is listing badly!

And for those who want to respond to me about Jim Tressel applying, I think his recent track record as a cheater/liar speaks volumes.

Now that he lost his case in federal court for violating Professor Adams’ constitutional rights, no surpise he wants out. UNCW has become an embarrassment for NC higher education. Beginning with Leutze, UNCW has become nothing but a failed experiment in leftwing politics. Close it down and save the taxpayers some money!

Best of luck, Gary! We really hope you get the job.

Not only is he a finalist for the job at Ohio University…but also here:

UNCW Chancellor Gary Miller is one of the top five finalists for President of Buffalo State College, according to officials with UNCW.

According to the school’s newspaper, Miller will be in town Monday night for a two-day tour and have a public forum at 12:15 p.m.

Miller is also being considered for the top job at Youngstown State University.

UNCW officials confirm Miller is pursuing other “opportunities in higher education.”

Other sources report he is on the narrow list of candidates in the running for the Ohio University’s presidential seat.

He is among five others being interviewed this weekend by the YSU presidential search committee via Skype, according to The Plain Dealer.

The liberals are what is wrong with our education system in North Carolina.

Even I, a Republican, can’t support what the GOP has done to the teachers in the state.

“Liberals” are not in power in case you hadn’t noticed.
