WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — While Wilmington usually receives attention for the area’s beaches, clinical trial research is also getting the region attention.
Today biopharmaceutical research companies touted the impact of trials on the economy. The companies have done nearly 500 clinical trials in the region since 1999. Many of them focus on things like cancer, diabetes, heart disease and stroke.
“We want this report to serve to help patients be well informed,” Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of American (PhRMA) Senior Director of Communications Kaeln Hollon said. “We want them to know all the concerns that they should bring up to their doctor, questions that they might want to ask, and to know what’s out there, what’s going on in your community and what medicines are being made.”
A new study PhRMA released today claims trials support nearly a quarter million jobs in the state and more than $50 billion in statewide economic activity.
