Police: Speeding driver led officer on car, foot chase

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Police arrested a man they say led them on a car chase after an officer caught him speeding through a Wilmington neighborhood.

They say just before 12:30 a.m., several calls came in reporting a car speeding through the neighborhood in the 4300 block of Fairview Drive. When an officer got to the area, police say a black car flew past the officer's marked car within minutes of parking.

That's when police say the officer took off after the speeding car, but the driver did not pull over when the lights came on and siren sounded. Police say the man inside, Christopher Wojnarowski, 19, then jumped out of the car and ran into a nearby wooded area. Officers and K-9 units searching the woods finally found him a short time later.

Wojnarowski was arrested and now faces several charges, including careless and reckless driving, resisting arrest, driving without a license and exceeding the posted speed. Wojnarowski is in the New Hanover County Jail under $2,000 secured bond.
