WWAY says goodbye to Ashley Jacobs

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- It's a sad day at WWAY, as we say goodbye to Good Morning Carolina anchor Ashley Jacobs.

Ashley's husband Nick recently earned a promotion to Warrant Officer in the US Marine Corps. As a result, he, along with Ashley and their two young kids, have been transferred to Camp Pendleton outside San Diego.

Ashley joined the WWAY family in February 2012. She left us at the end of the year, as the commitments of being a military wife meant she needed more time at home. Soon, though, the siren's song of TV news brought her home to us again, as she returned to the GMC anchor desk in August.

We all thought she'd be here for a long time, as it looked like Nick would be at Camp Lejeune for a while. But life doesn't always work out the way you planned, and while we are sad to see them go, it's tough to be too upset saying goodbye to a family that has devoted itself to service to our country. It's people like them that we all need to be grateful to and thankful for.

We will certainly miss Ashley, her contagious laugh, her loveable goofiness and those funny moments when her Midwest accent pops up. You can take the girl out of Ohio, but you can never take Ohio out of the girl!

Please join us in wishing Ashley and her family all the best. She has certainly given us that during her time here.

Ashley, thank you so much for waking me up ever since the 3rd grade. I remember I met you last year in person, and you were very nice. I will miss you, and pray that you come back! Thank you so much and God Bless!

I must admit that one of the main reasons I started watching GMA was due to Ashley. What an excellent news person with a manner that left you just feeling good. Thank you, your husband and family for your service to this great country and your sacrifices to keep us safe. We miss you, wish you and your family the very best and hope we will see you again on local TV some time in the future.

Thank you for making me feel at home the moment I stepped into this building. Life on the move as a military family can be stressful, but people like the individuals making up the WWAY team make it easier. There was never a moment I felt alone while working here. Waking up before the sun was easy to do because I knew I was heading to a job at which I'd be surrounded by hardworking, respectful, loving people. Everyone at WWAY, from the custodian all the way to the top dog, play an important role in getting our product on air and I am proud to say I played a part in the process. I will always look back at the years I spent in Wilmington with fond memories and who knows... as I've often joked with my superiors, maybe I'll be begging them to take me back in a few years if our family gets transferred back to Camp Lejeune ;) Take care!

Some people were born to be on TV; they simply shine. You were the highlight of WAAY for the past few years, and this retired Marine will sorely miss you. Good luck on the Left Coast.
