Sheriff Hatcher wins first Columbus Co. campaign

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Lewis Hatcher became Columbus County Sheriff in January when Chris Batten stepped down from office. Hatcher won his first political campaign Tuesday night.

Hatcher beat out four other Democrats in the primary election. Hatcher took in more than 79 percent of the vote. His closest competition came from Mike Walker, who had 11 percent.

With no Republican waiting in November's general election, last night's win means Hatcher has won the officer for four years.
