Payne to defend suspect in federal gang-related kidnapping of NC prosecutor's father

READ MORE:

SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) -- Shallotte attorney James Payne has been appointed to represent one of the suspects in a high-profile federal case.

Jakym Camel Tibbs is charged in connection with the kidnapping of Frank Janssen, 63, who was taken from his Wake Forest home April 5. Investigators say the crime is tied to Janssen's daughter, who prosecuted Kevin Melton, 49, a high-ranking member of the Bloods street grand. Janssen was rescued April 9 when FBI agents raided an apartment in Atlanta where he was being held.

Tibbs and Quantavious Thompson are charged with conspiracy to kidnap Janssen.

Tibbs is due back in federal court in Raleigh Tuesday for a detention hearing.

Those kinds of criminals

Those kinds of criminals have the same right to an attorney as every other American citizen. You might think that Mr. Payne is shaking in his boots at the thought of anyone coming after him, but I can assure you that he is not.

Very scary situation

Hate to say it but these type of cases never quite seem to turn out the way we expect for anyone involved in prosecuting defending or handing down sentence. If the kidnappers went to that extreme extent crossing multiple states, over a lawyer prosecutor, what else are they planning?
