WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Investigators believe a fire at a Wilmington overnight was arson.
Just before 4 a.m. the call came in reporting flames at a home at 622 Sharease Circle. Crews say smoke was showing when they got to the scene.
According to Wilmington Police spokeswoman Linda Rawley, the residents heard movement inside the home before they discovered the house was on fire. A bedroom window at the rear of the home was found on the ground. The Wilmington Fire Department's investigation found someone had forced their way into the home and used an accelerant to start the fire.
Firefighters say the home suffered about $75,000 in damage. They monitored hot spots throughout the night. The fire department says the American Red Cross is helping two people who lived in the house who have been displaced by the fire.
