WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington Police say officers had to use pepper spray after a crowd got out of hand downtown early yesterday morning.
WPD spokeswoman Linda Rawley says it started at 2:17 a.m. when officers responded to a crowd "being extremely unruly" in front of Pravda at 23 N. Front St.
When officers got there, they found a man on the ground unconscious who had to be taken to the hospital. Investigators say there was some sort of fight between the man and another man in the crowd. Police charged both men with affray.
Rawley says officers ordered the crowd several times to disperse. Eventually they used pepper spray, Rawley said, and charged four people with failure to disperse.
The names of the people charged were not immediately available, Rawley said.
