WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Police arrested a man they say tried to instigate a fight with a group in downtown Wilmington before leading a speedy car chase with officers, finally crashing his car in a nearby intersection.
Wilmington Police say it all happened yesterday near the intersection of Market and Princess streets when a deputy working with the downtown task force spotted a man in front of the Pour House with his fists raised.
They say witnesses told them the man, James Bosworth, 22, was instigating a fight there, pulling out a knife when threatening a group of people in the area. Officers say Bosworth walked away when they began to approach him.
That's when police say Bosworth took off in a car, speeding down Front Street. Officers say he was going so fast that they couldn't catch up with him. A short time later, Bosworth crashed the car at the intersection of 20th and Princess streets and took off running from the scene.
Police finally caught him when he was on foot, arresting him on several drug charges in addition to sparking the chase and crash. Bosworth is charged with careless and reckless driving, two counts of hindering and delaying officers, DWI, being intoxicated and disruptive, along with possession of schedule IV and schedule II drugs and paraphernalia.
Bosworth is still in the New Hanover County Jail under a $7,000 bond.
