City Council holds public hearing on new budget, transportation bond proposal

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington City Council heard from the public over their recommended city budget Tuesday night. The $145 million plan includes a $91 million general fund. Several organizations made suggestions as to where they thought funds should be distributed. Also on the table was a proposal to raise property taxes by one cent. That would mean about $20 for the owner of a $200 thousand house. Wilmington City Council also heard a presentation on potential transportation bond. Tuesday nights talk included a total of $55 million in funding. A new plan was discussed that included a trail on Masonboro Loop Road; connecting business and residential areas. In all, the breakdown of funding detailed tonight was $33 million to road projects, $20 million for bike and pedestrian projects and $2 million for public transportation.

A bit misguided

about 2 thirds for roads but a third for bike and pedestrian projects? And outside of regular budget considerations why $2M for public transportation?

I am not against bike paths I just wonder if we should be doing it now......
