WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Dozens of people came together at the Hilton Riverside Thursday morning to plan the area’s future.
Focus, a three year regional planning initiative, hosted the event and sought community impute about the direction of the Cape Fear. Organizers say 25 elected officials also attended.
They say as the population grows, it’s important for the community to maintain the quality of life in the region as well as provide job opportunities.
The Director of Focus, Al Sharp, says the economy’s crash in 2009 affected planning for the future.
"There was no sense of purpose. We kind of lost our direction. Now is the time with the economy picking up, and with life getting better again, maybe it's time to reinvigorate our future,” said Sharp.
Wednesday’s meeting was the 19th public meeting Focus has hosted over the course of a year.
Sharp says Focus will recommend a plan of action to move towards a productive future this summer.
