Man found guilty of manslaughter in Christmas Eve 2012 killing

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A Columbus County jury has convicted a man for manslaughter in the Christmas Eve 2012 death of his girlfriend.

Investigators said Beamon Fowler called 911 after shooting and killing his girlfriend Rebecca Ann Buffkin. They say he admitted to deputies when they arrived at her Tabor City home that he had done it.

Fowler was originally charged with murder. District Attorney Jon David says his office offered a plea deal for second degree murder, but Fowler, 61, rejected it. The jury found him guilty of a lesser charge.

David says a judge sentenced Fowler, 61, to between seven years and nine years five months in prison.
