Satisfaction after Downtown Sundown Concert series kicks off

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Friday kicked off the 9th Downtown Sundown Concert series featuring Chasing Opal opening for Rolling Stones cover band Satisfaction.

People flocked to Riverfront Park in Downtown Wilmington to take in some sweet and free tunes while enjoying food and drink as the sun set on the river.

One concert goer said the atmosphere of the concert series is what keeps him coming back year after year to enjoy this Wilmington summertime treat.

"A real good atmosphere, pleasant atmosphere, the people are friendly, good drink, good smoke, it's really great," Gregory Washington said.

Friday's concert was just the first of the 15-concert series. So, make sure you head out May 30 when you can hear UV, the international U2 tribute band, take the stage.

OK, bands with fellas over 60 are ok but NO MOOOOOOOOVIES. I hate them.

Sad that we don't have enough of a local music scene to have something other than an unoriginal "tribute" band. The Carolinas used to be the heart of the blues and bluegrass and surf music, now we're reduced to reheated oldies from the UK and Ireland performed by imposters.
