WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Ten years ago, a little boy from Alden Elementary died in a freak accident.

This year, Cape Fear Soccer Club decided to honor the former member with a tournament in his name.

The Evans Cup Outreach Invitational was Saturday in honor of the late Evan Peck.

Around 80 kids from schools all over New Hanover county came out to play.

They were split into teams by age and skill level.

Volunteers for the free event were soccer players from uncw and area high schools.

Program director Kim Crabbe says Evan’s family continues to support CFSC and she is so thankful for all the community involvement.

“These kids don’t get an opportunity to participate in tournaments like this so this is gonna be a big annual event,” Crabbe said. “We’ve had a great turn out it’s a beautiful day and we’re looking forward to doing this again every year.”

All participants walked away with a medal made of recycled materials donated by a local engraver.

  • May 30th 2015 is the 2nd annual event. I encourage all of the ladies who play soccer from Hoggard High School to try to attend in honor of Alex Pecks brother Evan.
