WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Temple of Israel broke ground on the new Rita and Jonathan Reibman Center for Kehillah at 922 Market Street this morning.
The new building will provide a place for Jewish education for the community, along with administrative offices for the congregation. Temple members and staff say a lot of time and effort went into planning, and they are excited to see the hard work pay off.
The Temple's Rabbi, Paul D. Sidlofsky, says he cannot wait to see it all finally come to fruition. "Well this was many years in the making, many years of visioning and thinking about it," Rabbi Sidlofsky says. "But in the last year or so there's been a capital campaign where we've raised a considerable amount of funds from within the congregation to fund this land and this building."
The congregation hopes the project will be completed in about six months. Members say they are looking forward to using the facility to connect with one another in their faith. The Temple of Israel is the oldest Jewish Temple in the state.
