Sheriff's Office warns about jury duty call scam

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office says it is investigating phone calls some county residents have been getting from someone fraudulently claiming to be with the Sheriff's Office.

In the calls, someone claims to be with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office and that the person receiving the call has failed to show up for jury duty. They then claim the person needs to pay a fine or a warrant will be issued for their arrest. Investigators say the claims are completely false and have nothing to do with the Sheriff's Office or Clerk of Courts. Instead they say it is an attempt to extort money from people.

Anyone who has received this call or has any information is asked to call the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office at (910) 798-4162.

"Better Call Saul"

I guess when these callers want a "Verdict" by phone...that will be another story. Especially when it cost you $1,500 (+/-) to make it.
Someone you sell tickets about this...I'd buy one!

I.ev never received a phone

I.ev never received a phone call. It was always by mail. People should screen their calls. I do. if I don't recognize the number, I don't answer. Unfortunately a lot of people (businesses etc) dosen't have a choice. but a lot of us do.
