CARY, NC (WWAY) — Panther Creek High and Hoggard High aren’t accustomed to low scoring games in girls soccer, but that’s what they both found themselves in on Tuesday night. The 4-A East Finals affair was scoreless at the half. Panther Creek scored early in the second half to take a 1-0 lead. Hoggard’s Aly Frankenny somehow managed to pull off a miraculous goal with just two minutes left to tie the game at 1. With a spot in the state finals on the line Panther Creek emerged victorious though. Panther Creek won 2-1 in overtime to end Hoggard’s state title aspirations.

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — Topsail had a comfortable 6-1 lead against South Johnston on Tuesday in game one of a best of three series. South Johnston came back to tie the game at 6-6, but Trader Flora’s grand slam in the 6th inning won the game for the Pirates. Click the icon to see WWAY’s video from Tuesday’s game.

Topsail will advance to the 3-A state championship series with a win on Thursday in game 2, or a win in game 3 if that is played on Saturday.

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Despite a handful of lightning delays East Carteret managed to hold off Whiteville on Tuesday in the girls soccer state playoffs. East Carteret won 4-2 in overtime. With the win the Mariners advance to the 1-A finals on Saturday in Raleigh. Ashley Carter and Madison Hinson both scored goals for Whiteville.

FLORENCE, SC (WWAY) — The Florence Red Wolves beat the Wilmington Sharks on Tuesday in the Coastal Plain League. It was the season opener for both squads. Wilmington will host Florence on Wednesday at Buck Hardee Field at 7pm. It’ll be the 2014 home opener for the Sharks.

The result of playing your best players results in beating really good teams.

I can say it works for us other schools should try it. You will not go far playing weak teams, and playing the highest bidders kids tells on you too.
I won’t call those coaches out. I don’t need to.

Good luck Pirates. Keep on winning the right way!
