CFCC starts building Surf City campus

SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — Higher education is taking shape in Surf City.

Today Cape Fear Community College set into place the first bricks for its new Alston W. Burke Campus off NC 210.

The property was donated to the college by the late Burke in 2008. The entire budget for construction of the project is set at $2.3 million with funding coming from the Town of Surf City, Pender County and CFCC funds.

The first building is scheduled to be finished Dec. 12. Classes are expected to begin early next year.

    Pender County put up a portion of the funding.

    Surf City put up a portion of the funding.

    A local resident donated the land.

    No bonds were required.

    Surf City is 1 of the leading towns in state for growth and fiscal solvency.

    THEY SHOULD GO FAR USING TAX PAYERS MONEY FROM BOND ISSUES. I ALWAYS VOTE NO ON BOND ISSUES. THE MONEY NEVER GOES WHERE ITS SUPPOSED
