WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY-TV)-- For the first time we are hearing from the family of assault victim Hannah Connaway.
In a statement released to the media her family said:
"We would like to thank the community for all of your prayers and support for Hannah. The response to Hannah's situation has been overwhelming and we are grateful for the concern of so many friends and family, and even strangers. Now is the time for healing. We ask that everyone continue to lift Hannah up in prayer and allow our family the privacy and peace we need to recover."
Witnesses said Connaway's boyfriend beat her so badly she had to have brain surgery and be put in a medically-induced coma Friday.
Her alleged attacker, Michael Hutton, 18, is still in jail under a $1 million bond. He denied our request for a jailhouse interview Wednesday.
