Man arrested after armed robbery at Scotchman sparks short chase

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Police arrested a man they say used a gun to steal cash from a Wilmington Scotchman store early this morning, sparking a short chase with officers.

Wilmington Police say they got the call around 4 a.m. for an armed robbery at the Scotchman at 310 S. College Rd. near New Centre Dr. That's where they say a man walked into the store with a handgun and demanded cash from the clerk. Investigators say Alfonzo Brooks, 39, walked out with an undisclosed amount of cash and got in a black car in a nearby parking lot.

When officers caught up with the car soon after on a nearby street, they say Brooks jumped out and took off running. Police say they then searched the area until they found him in the woods near MLK Parkway and N. Kerr Avenue.

Brooks is in the New Hanover County Jail under a $2,500 secured bond.

Hey, it's the Great Society mentality. Gimme, gimme, gimme. One dare not work for a living. It's in the Democrat Platform.

I just don't understand people these days. You go and hold someone at gun point to get money that you know you are gonna get caught for. There are camera's everywhere!
