RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Obama administration attorneys are asking a federal appeals court to rule against families who blame contaminated tap water at the Camp Lejeune Marine Corps base for birth defects, childhood cancers and other illnesses.

A Justice Department attorney citing a US Supreme Court ruling on Monday filed a request to the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta the same day. The Supreme Court ruled that a group of North Carolina homeowners cannot sue because state law strictly bars any lawsuit brought more than 10 years after the contamination occurred.

Government lawyers say that high court ruling should end the Camp Lejeune lawsuit.

President Obama approved a law in 2012 providing health benefits to Marines and family members exposed to the water from 1957 to 1987.

From what I understand, those who got sick from the water will be cared for, this latest move simply stops lawsuits which are sure to spiral out of control and provide nothing but a fast buck that will cure nothing.

el-Obamed once again shows us what he thinks of the US Military.

  • taxpayer says:

after all, her current propaganda on television shows her as being a “champion of the people” in the toxic water case at Lejeune. I cannot imagine her telling Obummer that he shouldn’t do this.

  • Clayton says:

Where is sgtmaj Howard of supply Battalion black female she was great also we’ll may be the civilian lawyers can turn something around for the good you think.

  • James Lewis says:

I see that some of the readers are upset with President Obama once again, if your should be upset with someone it should be the North Carolina General Assembly which pasted that law which is mentioned in the Supreme Court Ruling. While in the process of trying to protect industries and their political contributors in this state who may have been doing polluting it also protected that same industry who polluted the well water on Camp Lejeune. Those military families should still have health benefits under the law approved by President Obama in 2012 they just can’t sue the federal government for money. The citizens of this state vote for it’s state political leaders who don’t have the interest of it’s citizens at heart and a example of that in this current North Carolina General Assembly is law being pushed forward to prevent citizens of North Carolina from suing drug manufactures for illnesses they may get if the drug companies don’t mention it. Who are your politicians working for is the question we all should be asking.

  • Jimmy says:

Let us all hope they will not be cared for by Obama’s VA Medical Care System.

  • Barry Roseberry says:

Why the heck would President Obama make a deadline on the water contamination when so many people have just recently heard about it??? The government had it so covered up it’s unreal. For that reason there shouldn’t be a deadline for at least another 10 years! I thought that the government was “by the people and for the people!” My mother and I could really use the help for all of our suffering through all these years and now he wants to close out the case! Typical and unjust! Maybe our next president will be honest and reopen it…We can only pray,

Well this is pathetic. Our illustrious leader has now decided to fight his own laws that he okayed. At least he has accomplished one thing. It will take the Democrats a long time to recover from his idiocy. What a piece of trash.
