WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Everyone knows Michael Jordan is rich, but now it looks like the Wilmington native is truly in rare air.

Forbes.com reports the basketball legend is now a billionaire. Mike Ozanian at Forbes reports the new status comes as Jordan has upped his ownership stake in the NBA's Charlotte Hornets. In February, a Forbes writer reported Jordan's annual earnings at $90 million and his net worth at $750 million. But Ozanian says he has learned from sources that Jordan has increased his stake in his basketball team to 89.5 percent from 80 percent during the past several months.

Jordan graduated from Laney High School before a standout career at UNC and a Hall of Fame career with the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards.

maybe he could throw some change at his home town. He has the chance to be such a positive role model. Kids around here need role models. Of course he seems to claim to be from Charlotte now. That's a shame Wilmington was good to him.

Let's work together Michael and others. I see opportunities to revitalize a neighborhood in Wilmington, NC along Princess Place Dr in the vicinity of Fox Town marker. Am a retiring Army Veteran living God's purpose coming to Wilmington. Looking to gather God's people together in love for one another for safe neighbors, A journey for us to revitalize our neighborhoods/communities for resuming roles in the village. We need to take on our rightful responsibilities as villagers raising youth, families, churches, schools, and citizens at large. Turning boarded up houses to quality first time home owner properties, participate in Habitat for Hunanity, Community Gardening learning and sustainment, youth fitness opportunities "keep moving" to eliminate childhood obesity, spiritual experiences within a power far greater than our own...

Where are the liberals screaming "He doesn't pay his fair share!" Oh wait...Michael's a celebrity.

He doesn't pay his fair share. Happy?

Signed,

Your neighborhood liberal

Welcome to the club...Mike!
