WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police charged a man they say showed up with a shotgun after an argument that started at two Wilmington homes Saturday and threatened to shoot and kill several people.

Wilmington Police say it happened around 6:30 p.m. at two homes in the 2800 block of Vance Street. That’s where officers say they responded to a call about a man with a gun.

Police say when they got to the area, they found out Gary Sipe Criss, 53, first got into an argument with people living at the homes at 2833 and 2834 Vance St. before leaving the area. When Criss returned, police say he got out of his truck with a shotgun, pointed it at five people there and threatened to shoot and kill them all.

Officers say one of the victims was able to grab the gun, beating Criss with it. Criss was then taken to the hospital for stitches to his forehead before going to jail.

Criss is in jail under $50,000 secured bond. He is charged with five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, as well as going armed to the terror of the public.

Not sure what all the fuss is about. According to guestestrogen this is not an assault weapon.

    Dear Mr. Erikoenig,
I don’t care what your “guestestrogen” says it is what the North Carolina General Statue says. If you would just read it you would understand that it just doesn’t matter what you think at all.
Mr. Criss has been a boil on the butt of Wilmington ever since he was born. I have known this family for a long time. Mr. Criss also assaulted a Law Enforcement Officer years ago ruining his career but that doesn’t matter either. I hope he goes away for a long time this time!

Too funny, beat down with his own weapon.

  • Timekeeper says:

ADW with intent is charge enough. Was the enhancement charge of armed to the terror of the public really necessary? That charge is nothing but a catch-all when the cops can’t come up with something better when a gun is seen.

“When Criss returned, police say he got out of his truck with a shotgun, pointed it at five people there and threatened to shoot and kill them all.” That statement indicates that armed to the terror of the public is really a necessary charge.

I am calling out another poster on his silly assault weapons comments using sarcasm. I have no doubt this guy is a dirt bag.

  • Rusty says:

I would have thought “Assault By Pointing A Gun” was more in line; I guess they hope by charging higher they settle for a deal for that. Good luck on making the original charges stick

  • Guest2020 says:

I don’t think it really matters what the charge is. As long as a Dealing David is District Attorney, the criminals get plea deals all day long.
