WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Day one of the Fred Lynch Invitational is complete. Six different venues are being used in New Hanover County to showcase this three day high school basketball summer event. The Fred Lynch Invitational is intended to honor former Laney boys basketball coach Fred Lynch. He’ll will be fairly low-key during this week’s event, but current Laney head coach Nathan Faulk will be more than a busy bee. When he’s not coaching, Faulk will try to make sure everything runs smoothly. After all, there are 50 teams participating. “This is one of the best showcase events in the state and surrounding area,” Faulk said. “Very luck and very blessed to have things work out the way they have the last 3 years. I’m happy with what we have going. As a team we looked good today. We won both of our games. We’re playing together, playing smart and I like to see that as a coach.”

BigShots.Net has partnered with Laney High for this year’s Fred Lynch Invitational. Former WWAY Full Court Press co-host Kevin Schneider is vice president of the BigShots recruiting service. “We had 12,000 players in Big Shots this spring. A lot of those players here played in our events on travel teams so it’s great to see them with their high school teams. Every player that comes in here gets evaluated. It’s sent out to every college coach in the country and you’ll see a lot of players who played in the Fred Lynch Invitational blow up on the national scene hopefully after this event.”
