WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Mike Propst has been named head football coach at Ashley High School. Propst was the defensive coordinator at Ashley in 2011 and 2012. He was an assistant coach at Ashley for football in 2013. He also served as an assistant basketball coach under David Rutledge in basketball during the 2013-14 season. “Our guys know me,” said Propst. “I think that was a big factor in getting the job and we’ve already got it going and will continue to work. I’ve had a lot of our guys in class and have seen them around one way or another so I think it’s going to help in the process. It’s a long term thing for me. We want to build a program, and not just a team with a bunch of kids with jerseys. I know coaches say that all the time, but you’ll see that come to fruition the next 3 to 5 years with us.”

Mike Propst has been a head coach at a handful of high schools in the western part of the state. He takes over for Tom Eanes who resigned last month at Ashley.

On Wednesday Jerry Hogan was introduced as Ashley’s new volleyball coach.
