WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Pender County School board decided Thursday night to hold a public hearing on Penderlea School.

The board had originally voted to change Penderlea School from kindergarten through 8th grade to kindergarten through 5th Grade.

Parent and spokesman for "Save Penderlea School" Patrick Giddeons said that the School Board decided to table to the bond resolution.

About 15 parents spoke to board members against the proposed change. We're told that a public hearing will be held on a date to be set to debate what the best approach should be.

NOOOOOOOOoooooo!!!!!!

This School has ALWAYS BEEN A GOOD SCHOOL. MY kids went there & now my Grandkids go there. It has ALWAYS HAD A FAMILY TYPE ATMOSPHERE. The Teachers cared and they ALWAYS HAVE HAD HIGH EOG SCORES EVEN IF THEY ARENT RECOGNIZED AND ACKNOWLEDGED BY DR.TERRI COBB. IF THEY CHANGE THAT SCHOOL FROM K-5 ITS SAD TO SAY BUT A WHOLE LOT OF TEACHERS WILL BE SHIFTED AROUND BECAUSE THE PARENTS WILL SNATCH THERE KIDS OUT AND SEND THEM ELSEWHERE!!! U MITE WANT TO "RECONSIDER"

Save Penderlea School

The public hearing will be held Tuesday July 1st at 6 p.m.

The meeting is actually

The meeting is actually going to be today at 1:30 at the Pender Resource Center on Hwy 117 across from Pender Plumbing in Burgaw. They (the school board) originally told us 7/1, then changed it. Our notification of this meeting consisted of letting us know on Friday at around 1:30 that we needed to be at a meeting on Monday at 1:30. Unfortunately not a lot of time for people to arrange to take off from work, etc. I am still hoping for a good turnout and a satisfactory resolution of this situation though!
