Galleria deannexation bill passes in General Assembly

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Goodbye, Wrightsville Beach. Hello, Wilmington.

A bill to allow the old Galleria property to transfer municipalities has passed in the General Assembly. Senate Bill 523 passed its final vote in the Senate yesterday without objection.

The bill allows the Town of Wrightsville Beach to deannex the area and the City of Wilmington to annex it. A developer wants to turn the abandoned property into a mix-used development with shops and apartments.

Because it's a local act, the bill does not need the governor's signature to become law.

ITS NOT "IN WRIGHTVILLE BEACH ANYWAY". FIRST, NEW HANOVER COUNTY, CROSS THE INTRA COASTAL WATERWAY, TO HARBOR ISLAND, THEN CROSS BANKS CHANNEL TO WRIGHTVILLE BEACH. IF THE GALLERIA IS NOT IN WB, THEN WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF THE AREA AND BUSINESS? ONLY WHAT BENIFITS WB.

There are quite a few spots on this side of the bridge that are part of Wrightsville Beach. It took less than a minute on Google to find a map.

Wrong on several counts.

1 - It's WrightSville Beach, not Wrightville Beach.

2 - ITS NOT "IN WRIGHTVILLE You're missing an additional ". Did you or a cat type that?

3 - The Galleria property has always been under the jurisdiction of Wrightsville Beach Police Department.

4 - Did you not read the part about that whole annexation thing? The fact that New Hanover County would have to annex the property should have been a giant red honking flag to you that it belonged to Wrightsville Beach.

5 - Typing in all caps is the same as shouting to the world "I'm a loudly braying jackass."

NUMBER 5. TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE. I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE WHOLE AREA. SINCE I DON'T HAVE A CAT, I GUESS I TYPED IT. AS TO THE CAPS, DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS? AT LEAST YOU NOTICED MY CAPS, DIDN'T YOU. I KNEW IT BELONGED TO WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH. THATS WHAT THE QUESTION WAS ABOUT, OR DIDN'T YOU READ IT ALL?
