SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) -- The 6th Annual Children's Fishing Competition in Surf City went off Friday afternoon without a hitch.
Kids ages 16 and younger grabbed their fishing poles and weighed in, competing for medals and prizes. Games and snacks kept everyone occupied between each cast.
Pier Manager Vinita Gass said the event was all about sharing the love of fishing and that it would take quite a bit to cancel such an event.
"We had a lot of concerned parents," She said. "We had a lot of phone calls if we were going to still have it. We felt pretty confident the day would be nice and we never did call it off, we kept telling people it was gonna be pretty."
Admission to the pier is normally only a dollar, but everything was free today.
