BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A man wanted for alleged sex crimes involving a child has been arrested in Idaho.
On May 13, Leland Police got a report accusing Fernando “Flaca” Vargas-Julio of a sexual assault. Police say their investigation determined some of the assaults occurred outside the town limits, so LPD contacted the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office. The two agencies got warrants against Vargas-Julio for two counts of first degree sex offense with a child, three counts of indecent liberties with a child, two counts of crimes against nature and disseminating obscenity to a minor.
When officers could not find Vargas-Julio, the case was turned over to the US Marshal Service Eastern North Carolina Fugitive Task Force, which did several interviews about Vargas-Julio, which led to leads that late Wednesday evening he was staying with a friend in Jerome, ID. The next day marshals in Idaho had Vargas-Julio in custody.
Investigators say he was working at a rand under the fictitious name Alfredo Rendon-Casadas. He is in jail in Idaho awaiting extradition to North Carolina.
