DURHAM, NC (AP) — Trial is set to begin for a man accused of killing a Duke University graduate student more than six years ago.

Laurence Lovette Jr. is charged with murder in the 2008 death of Abhijit Mahato. Trial is scheduled to begin in Durham on Monday.

Lovette is serving a life prison sentence for the 2008 shooting death of Eve Carson of Athens, GA, who was student body president at the University of North Carolina.

Mahato was found dead in his off-campus apartment in Durham.

Lovette was arrested eight days after Carson’s death, and police investigators said they connected him to Mahato’s death.
