LELAND, NC (WWAY) -- A couple who had their honeymoon cut short after Leland Police say they found them with drugs and cash in their car face more charges back home.
When police stopped Raymond and Jacqueline McLaughlin of New York on Fairview Road early Sunday morning for traffic violations, they told police they were heading to the beach for their honeymoon. Investigators more than 200 grams of morphine, oxycontin, hydrocodone and methadone and $21,000 in cash in the car. Police found Raymond also had an active domestic violence protection order taken out against him by Jacqueline.
Today Leland Police said police in Montgomery County, NY, contacted them and said the McLaughlins have have outstanding warrants in New York. Montgomery Police said Raymond McLaughlin has been charged with first degree rape and sexual assault. Jacqueline McLaughlin has also been charged with sexual assault.
The Brunswick County Detention Center has copies of the warrants and the Montgomery Police Department is in the process of filing extradition paperwork so the suspects may appear in court.
