RALEIGH, NC (AP) — The Senate says it has a North Carolina Medicaid reform bill to discuss after the House passed its own plan recently that would shift financial risk of the government health insurance to doctors and hospitals.
Senate Republicans scheduled a Wednesday committee meeting to debate a proposal designed to bring costs in check for the state Medicaid program. They included one in their budget proposal weeks ago that lacked details on how to achieve cost savings.
Gov. Pat McCrory’s administration backs a House plan to give provider networks a set amount of money for each Medicaid recipient they treat. Keeping patients healthy and costs down would help network profits.
The Senate also said previously it wants the Medicaid office out of the Department of Health and Human Services.
